Educating the Whole Child:
Mind, Body and Spirit.
Composed of three elements:
Phonemics Awareness which includes sounds, rhyming & syllables
Phonics including learning letter sounds, pairing the sound to the symbol and the symbol to the sounds, blending sounds and reading with fluency (smoothness) and comprehension (understanding).
For Math, we use hands-on math manipulatives, actions, experiments, and problem solving.
Our studies includes calendar patterns, sets of same and different, counting to 100 by 1,2,5, and 10, ordinals, shapes, graphs, tallying, sorting, measurements, introduction to time, money, and fractions. We begin the concept of addition and subtraction using a ten frame using manipulatives.
We learn God made us. God made everything. God gives us life, family, friends, nature and animals, and everything. God loves us. God sends His Son, Jesus, to teach us about how to live. We go to Mass weekly, learn prayers, make prayer petitions, and study the seasons of the Church including Advent, Lent, and Easter. We learn values education: kindness, cooperation, and encouragement. We also study a safe environment curriculum as required by the Diocese.
The hands-on, project-based Nancy Larson® Science Curriculum: Science K focuses on the children and their interaction with the world around them. We introduce and study all three main science areas Life, Physical, and Earth and Space Sciences:
We discuss and learn Who Are We, Our Communities, Work, Holidays, and Family Heritage as themes we study throughout the year.
