guidelines for parents to keep Children home from school
1. Vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain
2. Temperature greater than 101 degrees within 24 hours of the start of the school day
3. Uncontrollable coughing, sore throat, heavy nasal congestion
4. A communicable illness (i.e. strep throat, the flu, head lice, pink eye).
If a communicable situation is suspected, please inform the school nurse so that she can monitor other students, and if necessary, notify other parents. Your child should not re-turn to school until the symptoms have ceased for at least 24 hours, or he/she is on pre-scribed medication for a full 24 hours. If a child comes to school sick, he/she will be sent home.

When can my child go back to school after having the flu?
- Keep your child home from school for at least 24 hours after their fever is gone.
  - The fever should be gone without the use of a fever-reducing medicine.
  - A fever is defined as 100F (37.8C) or higher.
- People with the flu may be able to infect others from 1 day before getting sick to up to 5 to 7 days after they have symptoms.
- Rest and drink enough fluids. Consult your doctor as needed.

Vision Screening

The Masachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Science (MCPHS) School of Optometry, faculty and optometry students, conduct the vision screening at Assumption School. Vision is important to your child's ability to learn and progress satisfactorily at school. Vision screening is offered to all students.
Hearing Screening

Hearing is very important to children's abilities to listen, learn and make good progress in school. For these reasons, Assumption School takes a special interest in the hearing of our students. Annual hearing screening is offered to all students during the month of November by the Worcester State University's Speech-Language-Hearing Center.
